What's On at Easter
Ash Wednesday
The start of Lent, six and a half weeks before Easter. Often includes the marking of a cross in ash on the forehead.
Palm Sunday
The Sunday before Easter. Many churches hand out palm crosses, and some process outside.
Maundy Thursday
Thursday evening. Marks the Last Supper, sometimes with foot-washing.
Good Friday
The most solemn service of the year, often around midday and lasting up to three hours — though many churches hold a shorter one. Some towns hold an open-air Walk of Witness.
Easter Sunday
The main celebration. Some churches begin at dawn, and most hold a full service later that morning.
Check before you set out. Easter moves each year, and service times differ from a normal Sunday. Check with the church before setting out.
